Third Batch of Bands

Gym Class Heroes
Being on the signed by Pete Wentz of Fall Out Boy a person would assume that Gym Class Heroes are another pop-punk bands emerging because of the latest boom in that style of music. But on the contrary, Gym Class Heroes would more closely resemble the musical stylings of a band like The Roots. Gym Class Heroes are blend of rap and symplistic instruments with a dash of rock on the side. It is really hard for me to really explain what the Gym Class Heroes are like. Singer Travis McCoy focuses his songs on, The Papercut Chronicles, on ex-girlfriends, hate crimes and addiction to perscription pills. This definetly isn't your typical rap band focusing glorifying the life of drugs and violence that permeates in rap music. So for a fresh outlook on rap, with a socail conscious, check out Gym Class Heroes. Here is their video for their song "Papercuts"

Caedmon's Call
This is the first Christian band that I ever listened to. I have been listening to them for about 7 years. They are an ecclectic ensemble band that blends the version of typical Christian rock music with international influences (they travel alot to foreign countries for mission trips). Caedmon's Call is one of those bands that I will always listen to and support, even though there newer material is greatly outshadowed by their earlier albums. Original lead singer, Derek Webb, left Caedmon's Call 3 years. He has moved onto a solo careerm but hasn't reached the success that Caedmon's Call once had. Caedmon's Call is often grouped together with other very successful Christian groups such as Jars of Clay. I know must of you guys won't like Caedmon's Call but I figured if I was to be honest about music I like then these guys definetly deserve to make the list. Catch you guys later.

Mike, I really like Gym Class Heroes, I am listening to it right now on Rhapsody..(papercut) my best friend would love this b/c we both don't really like the verbally abusive rap..I mean we like some but really we would prefer if rap would be more like this or like The Roots...because their messages are so much better than what is usually in rap...violence, drugs and just abusive speech.

I just wanted to say that I really enjoyed your blog and learning about the different types of artist and bands out there...especially right now..because I just found a new group that I like..GYM CLASS HEROES! THAnks!

I have to say that I am a pretty big fan of Gym Class Heroes. I have been looking into their music for years. I have even gone to a few of their shows. I definitely think that they are a really good band worth checking out. Do you know when their last cd came out? I have not heard of anything about it in a while. I am sure that there was a fairly recent release or at least some news on one. I hope that I get a chance to see them again sometime soon. They are a really good live act, and they had a good tour together when I saw them last. Have a great day and take care.

I was surprised to see that you would feature a group like Gym Class Heroes. I enjoyed the song that you put on. I love this type of music, but I can’t stand listening to most rappers. I am so tired of hearing them degrade women and glorify drugs, and violence too. Have you ever listened to Citizen’s Cope? I really like them, I think he is a little mellower than Gym Class Heroes, but still similar. Are these guys from Philly area? I feel like their style is similar to bands from philly. Well thanks again for another band!!

I had never heard of Gym Class Heroes, but I went to their site and checked out some of their songs. I was BLOWN AWAY by the song, "Taxi Driver." They managed to talk about SO many different bands all in one song. I couldn't believe it. It was pure genious. I also listened to "Papercuts" and thought it was really cool sounding. I can definitely see how it would be hard for you to describe the sound of the band becuase it really is like nothing else that I have ever heard. I did think that the lead singer's voice sounded like Mike Shinoda from Linkin Park when he was rapping, but that didn't change the fact that I still thought they were a really awesome band. Good call.
